BSA Buddies – In your bones

We are delighted to announce that ArtCare have been successful in an application to the British Science Association (BSA) Community Buddy programme.  This is supported by funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) as part of the BSA’s ongoing community engagement work. The programme aims to connect Community Leaders with local researchers to spark new ideas and drive innovative community-led science engagement.

Lesley Self from ArtCare and Claire Elizabeth Clarkin from the Skeletal and Developmental Biology research group at University of Southampton will be working in collaboration on a series of public engagement events thanks to a £4k BSA grant.  They will both be working with community groups, using creative activities and the hospital’s historic archive collections, to improving the understanding of skeletal structure, function and disease could increase uptake of health advice as we age.  The project will facilitate conversations for better understanding of lived experiences around health inequity and barriers to equitable skeletal health care.
