Nick Andrew is a landscape artist based in South Wiltshire, renowned for artworks that explore the natural world through both visual and narrative means.

In 2022, Nick embarked on the SPiRE project, a series of mixed-media plein air drawings capturing the view of Salisbury Cathedral’s spire from 32 different compass points surrounding the city. Each piece reflects the changing seasons and includes a written narrative detailing the sounds, wildlife, and atmosphere experienced during the drawing sessions.

Nick says about sketching in the landscape:

“I use it is a means of getting to know the world around me. A way of working out ideas, of trying things out, of playing. Over the past few years I have started to see drawing as an act which I can enjoy for its own sake.

I’ve worked on a project called SPiRE: a series of plein air drawings, looking back at Salisbury Cathedral spire from as far as possible beyond the city. So, most are about the stunning wider landscape around Salisbury through the seasons.  My current project: confluence explores the five rivers which flow into and through Salisbury (Avon, Wylye, Nadder, Bourne and Ebble).”
