Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Working with texture medium, adding mixed media with acrylic paint & inks to create marks & interesting textural surfaces to add into future paintings. We will work on small 6” x 6” tiles of board to explore marks with brush and various mark-making tools.

Lindsey Cole is a New Forest based artist. Her work is of varied subject and media. She enjoys expressive marks and textural surface, while exploring the process with paint and ink. Lindsey draws her inspiration from the natural world, the New Forest and the surrounding coastline, responding to atmosphere and light. Her work is of a semi-contemporary abstract feel.

SDH staff & volunteers: Visible Mending

Date: Monday 28th April 2025
Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Charlotte Jenner for an evening class of visible mending with stitch. You will be introduced to modern visible mending techniques borrowing from traditions such as Japanese Boro with Sashiko. Using small running stitches we will mend holes and weak areas in your garments and add beautiful fabrics to reinforce areas, prolonging the life of your garment.

This is a lovely relaxed class and you can be as neat and tidy or as free and easy with your stitching as you like!

Charlotte works as a palliative care doctor in the hospice and also runs creative workshops, teaching mending techniques and weaving. She has found that making and mending things helps her cope with the rest of her life! You can find her on Instagram @anestofgentlemakers or on her website https://www.anestofgentlemakers.co.uk

You are invited to bring along a textile garment to repair such as jeans or a shirt or jacket. Denim works really well. Charlotte will provide all of the tools needed to repair your garment and will have a selection of Japanese fabrics to work with. If you do not have anything to mend there will be the opportunity to buy a bartender's apron at a small cost (£7), which you can embellish with the fabrics provided.

You will be taught the techniques needed to secure and mend a hole in your garment and then you will have time to work on what you have brought. There will also be several examples of books and mended clothes to explore. Basic sewing skills and some dexterity would be very useful. If you can thread a needle, do running stitch and tie a knot in your thread, you can mend your clothes!"
