SDH Nature Guide

The SDH Nature Guide written by Salisbury District Hospital staff member James Macpherson, sponsored by Salisbury Hospital League of Friends, and designed by ArtCare has arrived. The booklet provides a month by month guide to the wildlife of Salisbury District Hospital and the surrounding area. As well as informing staff, patients and visitors about the wonderful array of flora and fauna on their doorstep, the booklet also aims to engage support for preservation of the site’s biodiversity. Author James Macpherson said, “This is a rare and special habitat with which southern England is particularly blessed… and which during my frequent walks around the SDH site I have been able to enjoy on a daily basis.” Copies are available to purchase from the League of Friends shop in the hospital’s main reception.

Reusable catering cup

ArtCare has designed a new special edition reusable cup in line with Salisbury District Hospital’s commitment to reduce single use plastic. The design uses images from the hospital’s historical archive and celebrates the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife and 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. The cup is available to purchase in the hospital’s Springs Restaurant and Hedgerows Coffee shop for £5.

‘I am Florence’ notebooks

This month ArtCare are launching ‘I am Florence’, a special project supporting the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife 2020 celebrations at Salisbury District Hospital. ArtCare would like to invite Nurses and Midwives, including students and retired staff to share their stories about life as a nurse or midwife for our healthcare History project. We have 90 pocketbooks waiting to be filled with your thoughts and memories. Contact ArtCare on sft.artcare@nhs.net to take part. All completed books will be entered into a free draw to win a set of three reusuable cups including the new Florence 200 cup (see above).

Open exhibition

A reminder to all local and regional artists who would like to submit works for selection in this year’s annual open exhibition that the hand in dates are: Saturday 14th March, 10am-12noon and Monday 16th March 2020, 10am–4pm. Please download our Open Exhibition submission pack and read carefully as taking the time to prepare your work before arrival will ensure our delivery arrangements will run as smoothly as possible.

Garden technician wanted

ArtCare are seeking a Garden Technician to lead volunteers working in patient garden areas at Salisbury District Hospital. The post is currently funded for at least one afternoon per month (3.5 hours) with the option for further dates to be added. The post would suit someone who enjoys being outdoors, has some gardening knowledge and likes to work as a team! You will also need to flexible on timings, self-employed and with your own Public Liability Insurance. Sculpture courtyard artist opportunity

ArtCare has a locked external courtyard off the main corridor on Level 4, SDH North for displaying large sculptural pieces such as stone, bronze, willow, and installation art. Pieces are viewed from inside through large windows.

3D artists seeking to exhibit their artwork should register their interest by downloading and completing a database form, and returning it together with a short description about the proposed themes, media, amount of work you would like to show and your availability by email to Lesley Self
